I did it, I finally finished this huge vector that's been eating away at my time for god knows how long.

I'm pretty happy with the overall result, although there are more than a few things that I'd like to correct due to the screenshot getting so fuzzy at the end I was basically guessing what half the houses looked like.

Critiques are, as always, welcome, but I'd rather they be about how to refine my skills with this sort of thing rather than picking out some of the (many) inaccuracies in the vector. I'd like to improve in the future, as opposed to correcting this for the next month.

Here's the reference for anybody curious: [link]
As well as the higher resolution reference I used for around the town hall: [link]

And here's the Illustrator (AI) file: [link]
As well as the SVG file: [link]

Edit: Seems a lot of people are messaging me asking for permission to use this in their various projects. Sorry if I didn't make it clear enough, but I did make this as a resource and you can use it how you like so long as you credit back to me (It'd be nice to tell me where you're using it too, in a note or comment, but that's not necessary).

Your background was used in my Youtube video, History of the Alicorns: A Response to Ink Rose. It takes Ink Rose's headcanon and adds more lore and fixes small issues with the original. The title of this and your name was listed in the credits, and a link to a gallery of all the photos used in History of the Alicorns is in the description.

Here's a link:…

Thanks for making this background,

Hope you're okay with that :)

"... there had been considerable confusion over the exactly when Ponyville was found and the origins of much of its well known cultural activities - an example is Winter Wrap Up, which had been practiced by earth-ponies for centuries, despite the fact that modern Ponyville was founded a mere century ago...

... It was then clarified, based upon extensive archaeological and archival research, which shows that there had been, in fact, THREE Ponyvilles in the area, each found, destroyed and then re-found successively in three different time periods...

...The land which Ponyville is situated was first settled thousands of years ago, when the Three Tribes first migrated to Equestria during and after the Windigo Crisis and the Winter Exodus. Back then, the wild, untamed land was under the ownership of one of the tribes of the Forest Folk, the indigenous and enigmatic deer inhabitants that originally lived on this land...

... The area around Ponyville was the site of many battles and skirmishes between the Equestrian legionnaires and the tribal warriors of the Forest Folk... from the Founding Period to the rise of the Classical Age Equestrian Republic. Despite considerable resistance, the ponies' systematic campaign of conquest and settlement eventually led to the expulsion/extermination of the Forest Folk from their homeland and their disappearance into the dark forests...

... The first Ponyville in that area was called Colonia Caballio, or ‘Pony Colony’, and was found by Empress Maiestas, better known “Majesty the Great”, during the mid classical age Equestrian Empire as one of the many new colonies built for Equestrian legionnaires retiring from military service...

... Why it was named merely as ‘Pony Colony’ was a source of some confusion among local historical experts, though records suggests that there had been disputes over the naming that nearly led to the schism among the ponies in the town, and thus ‘Pony’ town was given as a temporary, and later permanent name, which would eventually lead to later towns to be called ‘Ponyville’. Thanks to the fertile farmland in the area, the colony flourished into a major local agricultural and trading hub well into the late Imperial era...

... Following the collapse of the old Empire, the Age of Chaos, the rebuilding and resettling of Equestria under the Alicorn Princesses, a second town was rebuilt from the ruins of the old colony by earthpony farmers and re-founded as Ponyville, under its first mayor Soup Sandwich. Soup Sandwich, an eccentric individual known for weird habits such as wearing his own lower garments on his head like a hat, was responsible for many of the town’s famous social events, among them Winter Wrap Up, Running of the Leaves and the Summer Harvest Parade (And the mentioned festivals were the very few of those events that were not abandoned after Soup Sandwich’s passing)...

... The second Ponyville was devastated in the carnage and chaos of the Nightmare War, one thousand years ago; during the civil conflict a famine occurred as a result of the erratic Day-Night circle as the Alicorn sisters fought for the control of day and night. A major decisive battle was fought near the town between armies loyal to Princess Celestia and armies under Princess Luna/Nightmare Moon during that time. Ironically, although Princess Celestia explicitly ordered to protect the ponies in the area from the conflict, the town was ironically pillaged and destroyed by soldiers who were deserting from her own armies...

... After the war the ruins of the town were deserted and left to be reclaimed by nature. The area became crown territory, under the possession of Princess Celestia, and remained so for nearly 900 years until it was sold off to the Apple clan, then travelling seed-selling pilgrims, who settled in the area unaware of its local history. The third Ponyville’s foundation was facilitated by the Apple clan when one of the clan mares, Apple Smith, discovered and planted Zap Apples, an exotic new fruit which attracted new settlers into the area who eventually build a new town, which would become modern Ponyville. Though it was only much later that they rediscovered the local history and gave it the name of old Ponyville, as well as resurrecting many of its old customs and adding new ones, such as Nightmare Night, Sisterhoove Social, Hearts and Hooves day...”
